Noise and its impact on the perception of food and drink

Noise is currently the second most common complaint amongst restaurant-goers, behind poor service. In fact, over the last decade or two, many restaurants have become so loud that some critics now regularly report on the noise levels alongside the quality of the food. The noise has an effect the taste, aroma/flavour, and textural properties of food and drink.

Taken together, the evidence now clearly demonstrates that background noise can impair our ability to taste food and drink. It would appear that noise selectively impairs the ability to detect tastes such as sweet and sour while leaving certain other taste and flavour experiences relatively unaffected.

Good choice of background music can be a solution to this! You can check out our previous posts for some choice!

Banana

Americans tend to consume more bananas than apples and oranges combined! Thanks to a high level of tryptophan that is later transformed into serotonin bananas are great mood elevators. Plus there are so many ways you can use this rich in vitamins fruit.

Green Tea

We think that a Green Tea happens to be an underrated beverage. Benefits of Green Tea drinking are wide, for example, it reduces psychological stress. Green Tea also contains caffeine but it is much healthier than a coffee.

Chocolate

Ok, this may not be the best example of a food that will help you to stay fit. Choco contains N-acyclethanoloamine – substance that boosts a brain to release serotonin. You can consume Cocoa with a small amount of sugar to make this snack a bit healthier.

Spinach

Spinach has a lot of folic acid, which is known to reduce tiredness and help to fight with depression. High levels of magnesium also aid in keeping an appropriate level of serotonin. No wonders why Popeye eat tons of Spinach!

Nuts

Nuts contain a number of compounds that nutrient the brain – vitamin E, melatonin, Omega-3 fats, and antioxidants. Diet rich in nuts is helping to combat the likes of depression and increase brain activity.
